some shit coming up...
Lefty's been one busy sumbitch lately, what with organizing the O-Town Hoedown. Still, there's always time for a gig or 3, so here we go...
First off, if you're lucky enough to catch this today, Lefty's doing a solo show at Irene's Pub this coming Friday (August 1st), with Lee Mellor (Montreal) and newcomer Dusty Drifters (Ottawa).
After that, Lefty's playing twice at the O-Town Hoedown. A solo show at the Elmdale House Tavern, with friends Steve Stacey, Ray Harris and Ken Workman. After that, you can catch him and his band Ninety Pounds of Ugly at the O-Town Hoedown closing night bash, with The Bible All-Stars, Slo' Tom, and the Woodrunners. Check the Dates section for details.
You must be asking, "What in the fuck is this Hoedown business, and why was I not informed?" Since you asked so nicely, the O-Town Hoedown is a celebration of Ottawa's finest offerings of alt-whatever country music. It's 7 days of sheer madness this year. Go down to www.otownhoedown.com to see what's the what.
That's it for now, stay tuned for details on Lefty's upcoming EP, which is in the pre-production stage right now ("pre-production" is an industry term that means "Lefty gets to rambling about this EP whenever he's been drinking, and has started saving the cocktail napkins with his "plan" scribbled all over them").

New shows, new songs
Some new dates added to the Dates section, of all places. A rare Lefty show coming up, as well as some listings for Lefty's other band, Ninety Pounds of Ugly. At the next Lefty show (that's February 9th), you long-time fans will be treated to a couple of NEW SONGS. Shit yeah... This'll probably be the last time you'll see Lefty before the next O-Town Hoedown, as he focuses most of his time and energy on Ninety Pounds of Ugly (look forward to a recording real soon).
Also, go down to Lefty's Stupid Myspace Page to check out his latest hit, Blood Flows Quicker Than Gravy, recorded live at CKCU in late 2007. This recording features Lefty's good friends Greg Langille (of the Bible All-Stars) and Nathan Hunter on dual lead-guitars (if they sound weird at any time during the song, it's because they'd never heard it, and were just making that shit up as they went along. LIVE on the air... couple o' brave motherfuckers, those two...)

New shows added to listings
There's some new shows added to the schedule, go take a look. On September 8th, we've got Lefty's other band 90 Pounds of Ugly opening up for the Bible All-Stars at the Dominion Tavern, with special guest Lucky Ron.
October 6th, Lefty'll be at Irene's Pub for O-Town Hoedown '07, a 2-night (oct 5/6) dealie featuring Ottawa's finest alt-whatever country music acts. Other bands include Slo' Tom, The Polymorphines, The Bible All-Stars, Parson's Road, and Steve Stacey and the Stump Splitters.
So go check out the "Dates" section for details on those shows, and stay tuned for more exciting Lefty news. Next update expected in late 2010.

New pictures up, and some other shit
There's some new pictures up in the pictures section. These are from the last show, at Zaphod's with The Divorcees (check those sons o' bitches out in the links section, they'll become your new favourite band after about 2 seconds of listening).
In other news, uh... ok, there's no news right now. Some booking is being arranged for some road shows, solo shows, that sorta thing, more to come on that.
Keep your ear to the ground for a really great show happening in Ottawa later this year: a country jamboree of sorts featuring a bunch of up-and-coming local country-type bands. Confirmed so far are Steve Stacey and the Stump Splitters, The Bible All-Stars, and maybe Crowded Skies if Johnny's baby is born by then. You can find these crazy cats in the links section too, go check 'em out. Arrangements are being made for the show, details to be posted as soon as they happen.
Hhmmm, what else... Oh! You'll like this. Lefty's starting pre-production on recording for a couple of new songs. Details to come (as usual) but it'll be a different sorta sound: Lefty's gonna try and record all the instruments himself. Not that the band wouldn't be capable of doing it, cuz those guys fuckin' kick ass, it's just for the hell of it really. But yeah, you all can look forward to a couple of new songs being released over the summer. If the experiment works, maybe there'll be more after that. Stay tuned...

LISTEN THE FUCK UP IF YOU WANT TO SAVE INDIE MUSIC!
I guess this goes out to our friends south of the border, but awareness is always good so, wherever the fuck you're from, LISTEN UP!
New laws in the US are in the books to singlehandedly destroy smaller internet radio stations. In mid-July, royalty rates (the money paid by broadcasters for each song they play) are set to SKYROCKET to unbelievable levels (thousands of $$ a month, at least), thereby slaughtering the indie broadcaster who makes little to no money from their station in the first place.
As a result of all this bullshit, indie musicians like your good friend Lefty McRighty and thousands of others won't have a place to showcase their music to the world. Internet radio is accessible to everyone from Saskatoon to Timbuktoo, and everywhere in between (except China). We count on internet radio to show off music we're proud of, and music lovers the world over depend on internet radio to show them the best of the underground music out there. Internet radio is the one of the best ways for performers to spread the word, and for listeners to hear that word from halfway across the globe.
It's up to the listeners to do something about it, for fuck's sake. Go to the following website, read up on what's going on, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD (if you're a god-fearin' American) contact your congressperson and tell them you want them to support the Internet Radio Equality Act. If you're from elsewhere, look into your own government and see where they lie on this issue.

HOLY SHIT, AN UPDATE!
Hey all, Lefty here. I’ll be straight with ya, keeping two websites updated constantly is hard-ass work, and as much as I’ve wanted to keep the focus on leftymcrighty.com instead of the retardedness of myspace, the fact is it’s a lot easier for me to keep my friends and enemies updated using myspace blogs.
I’ll still be using leftymcrighty.com for important stuff like new pictures, that sorta business. For day-to-day ramblings and shit, you'll want to check out the myspace page. I’ll give you a heads-up at myspace if there’s a good reason to wander over here.
So there you have it. Check out www.myspace.com/leftymcrighty, bookmark it, subscribe to the blog for automatic updates, add me as a friend if you haven’t yet, and be sure to leave me hate mail and nudie pics in the comments section.
Seeya on the road,
Lefty
